When the sun pauses on the horizon at the sunset
The title is derived from a line in an Abkhazian story where Satanaya (Abkhazian: Satanai-Gvasha), the main female character, requests the sun to stop at the horizon in order to accomplish a personal goal before sunset. The strong female lineage in Abkhazian epics reflects moments of the early matriarchy in ancient Caucasus. The metal sculpture explores the transformation of the role of women, as depicted in myths and stories, from antiquity to the present day. The piece was made during the Artist residency program - Subtropical Cultures x Tbilisi photo festival residency program, between Georgian and Abkhazian Artist.
